Welcome to the Quality Council

The Ontario Universities Council on Quality Assurance (in short, the Quality Council), was established in July 2010 and is responsible for oversight of the Quality Assurance Framework processes for Ontario Universities.

The Quality Council operates at arm’s length from both Ontario’s publicly assisted universities and Ontario’s government. In particular, the Council is the provincial body responsible for assuring the quality of all programs leading to degrees and graduate diplomas, including new undergraduate and graduate programs (see Program Approvals), and for overseeing the regular audit of each university’s quality assurance processes (see Audits).

Each institution has developed its own Institutional Quality Assurance Process (IQAP), which is subject to review and approval by the Quality Council. The requirements for the IQAP are set out in the Quality Assurance Framework.

In its work the Quality Council depends very heavily on the judgement and recommendations of the Appraisal Committee, the Audit Committee and the Secretariat.

Land Acknowledgement

The sacred land on which the Ontario Universities Council on Quality Assurance (the Quality Council) operates has been a site of human activity for more than 10,000 years. This land is the territory of the Huron-Wendat and Petun First Nations, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. The territory was the subject of the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement between the Iroquois Confederacy (Haudenosaunee) and the Ojibwe (Anishinaabe) and allied nations to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes.

Today, the meeting place of Toronto is still the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work in the community, on this territory.
